Twitter Chat on #collegechat

Tonight I participated in #collegechat which is a Twitter chat for students in college, looking for college, parents, teachers, and professors. The topic was about if college sports should be removed from schools and should legacies get special admissions treatment from schools. It was really awkward for me at first, but then I realized that these people don't know me and don't care who I am or what I say so that made me feel a little more comfortable chatting with them. As time went on in the chat, I started to learn more about how the chat works and what to do. At the beginning, I kept forgetting to put in the hash tag and kind of lost track of who I was talking to but eventually got the hang of it. It was really interesting to see how many people just randomly engage in chats on Twitter on a regular basis because I probably wouldn't have participated in the chat if it wasn't for class, but after doing it I realized it really wasn't that bad of a thing. I can see how this would be helpful for teachers to chat about their different subject areas or what is going on at their schools. Talking with a lot of other teachers from around the nation/world would be really cool to do I think. I learned a lot from this experience and may possibly do it in the future for my classroom.
